Pathology Services
The Pathology Service Unit supports nonhuman primate colony health and the clinical veterinary staff by providing rapid diagnoses of disease through both anatomic (necropsy and surgical pathology) and clinical (analysis of body fluids from live animals) pathology services. In addition the Pathology Unit (i) supports all research projects at the WPRC which involve clinical chemistries, complete blood counts, urinalysis, microbiology, terminal procedures and/or surgical biopsies, (ii) provides distribution of nonhuman primate tissue, (iii) maintains a tissue library consisting of fixed, processed and frozen specimens, and (iv) provides microscopic and gross imaging services for both clinicians and investigators.

Services Supported
- gross and histologic analysis of clinical and investigational cases
- tissue processing and sectioning, including preparation of routine H&E sections as well as sections for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
- tissue collection, banking and distribution for all species at the WPRC, with special emphasis on aged animals
- full range of clinical pathology services including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and cytology
- microscopic imaging of fixed and live specimens using phase contrast, DIC or fluorescence techniques
