Honors: Robert Goy, WRPRC Director Emeritus, has won a 1996 Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association. He will be honored at the APA Annual Convention Aug. 15-19.

Larry Jacobsen, head of Library Services, has won the 1997 American Association of Primatologists Distinguished Service Award for his many contributions to primate research, conservation and education over the past 24 years. He was commended during the ASPÕs 20th Annual Meeting June 27-July 1 at the Bahia Hotel in San Diego.

April visiting scientists: John Berard of the Cayo Santiago Primate Center, Puerto Rico, met with Ned Kalin and Steve Shelton (Psychobiology) on their collaborations in social stress and longevity.

George Bray of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University and Ed Masoro of the University of Texas Health and Sciences Center in San Antonio reviewed our program project grant on dietary restriction and aging.

Stephen Kennedy from Oxford University worked with David Watkins and Leslie Knapp (Immunogenetics) on a grant application for genetics and endometriosis.

Fabrizio Poccia, University of Rome, Tor Vergata, is working with Mirek Malkovsky (Immunology and Virology) on gamma/delta T-cells in SIV/HIV infections.

Travels: Interim Director Joe Kemnitz represented the regional primate research centers April 23 in Washington, D.C, testifying for increased primate research funding. He and Bob Watson, associate director, Operational Services, also met with the other center directors and NCRR staff in Atlanta to discuss the status of primate center programs.

Dee Schramm (Reproduction and Development) visited the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ) in China Feb. 17 to March 17 to train local scientists in experimental embryology techniques using non-human primate gametes and embryos. The work is part of Barry BavisterÕs long-range collaborations with KIZ Director Weizhi Ji.
