DOCUMENT DELIVERY SERVICE
Primate Research Centers
 

The Wisconsin Primate Research Center Library offers document delivery service to primate research programs supported by the National Center for Research Resources. Funded by NCRR grant RR15311, "Coordinated Information Services to Support Primate Research," the purpose of the WPRC Document Delivery Service is to provide scientific staff with rapid access to research literature.

The Wisconsin PRC Document Delivery Service supplies journal articles and book chapters, provided as electronic PDF documents, and books or other monographs, within the constraints of fair use and University of Wisconsin-Madison contractual obligations.  This includes items located in the Wisconsin Primate Center Library and other University of Wisconsin-Madison campus libraries.  The service obtains journal articles and other documents not available on UW-Madison campus from libraries at other Primate Research Centers, the National Library of Medicine, other academic institutions, and commercial suppliers.

COST OF THE SERVICE

Eligible staff may use Wisconsin PRC Document Delivery at no cost.

SUBMITTING A REQUEST

Staff can submit requests for information in the following way:

• by entering citation information in the DDS web form .
• through Loansome Doc service when registered with Wisconsin PRC as "ordering library."

REQUIRED CITATION INFORMATION

Provide as much information as possible about the following:

• The author or authors of the requested document.
• The title of the article.
• The volume number, publication date, and page numbers.
• The periodical title or book containing a requested article.

LENGTH OF TIME TO RECEIVE A DOCUMENT

Most requests can be filled within three days, and "rush" requests can often be processed on the day received.  However, many factors can affect the turnaround time of the service, including:

• whether the information request is available on the UW campus or needs to be obtained from an external source
• the accuracy of the submitted request (incorrect/incomplete citations can delay retrieval)
• the availability of student couriers and/or vehicles
• high usage of the service (e.g., grant renewal periods)

RECEIVING A DOCUMENT

The Wisconsin PRC Document Delivery Service will provide documents to users as electronic PDF files only.  Requestors will be notified of the availability of PDF files via email.  The email will contain a citation for the requested document and URL to download the full document.  Electronic documents remain available to download for ten days.  In order to read a PDF file, the requester must have Adobe Acrobat Reader, available for free at http://www.adobe.com.
