Welcome to Assay Services

A core division of the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center.

Assay services has been a unit of the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center since 1972. Over the years Assay Services went from the more traditional macaque isotope hormone analyses laboratory to conducting assays in multiple species in a variety of biological matrices for an array of analytes utilizing modern and efficient technologies. For this, we have received national and international recognition for the volume, quality and diversity of our services. Under the directive of the NIH mission, we provide services to facilitate translational research. As such, since 2008 we are also a core laboratory of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR). We provide services to ICTR investigators in the schools of Medicine and Public Health, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Psychiatry and the College of Engineering.

Our Mission

To provide innovative, high quality and cost-effective determinations of steroids, proteins, vitamins, neurotransmitters, immune and bio-markers and other biologically active compounds to facilitate NIH funded research projects related to translational research. To support our mission, we hold the following core values:

  1. To function as a centralized unit providing services for investigators in the WNPRC and affiliated researchers.
  2. To provide consultation and advise for investigators for determining the analyses best suited to their needs and performing consulting and interpretation of results when requested.
  3. To continuously develop new techniques, analyses for different compounds, modifications to existing assays, and stringent quality control to allow for us to customize methods for investigators.
  4. Provide training for laboratory personnel to reduce the costs of the assays and to provide background into assay methodology.
  5. To develop “in-house” assays whenever possible to reduce the costs of assays associated with commercial kits.
